Earlier in the week I posted at article called My Halloween Makeup Memoirs, concluding the article with the promise of challenge myself and friends to really get creative with Halloween makeup this year. Each week I will post my latest face paint creation, along with a kinda/sorta tutorial. It you are interested in checking out what other people are doing with face paints for Halloween, follow #trickortreatmakeupchallenge on Instagram or join in on the fun by posting your own makeup creation.
This week, my inspiration was a cat.
Specifically the leopard.
*This is when Roar by Katy Perry starts playing in the background of my mind. And Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Yes, I know tigers and leopards are different. Apples and oranges my friend.
Before I could even begin my makeup project I had to acquire the necessary supplies, namely face-paints. Any local grocery or department store should carry them, especially around this time of year; I found a inexpensive set with a basic selection of colors at Fred Meyer. Before purchasing the paints make sure to read the back of the package where all the ingredients are listed- you wouldn’t want to slather your face with something you are allergic to.
I covered my lower cheeks, nose, lips and chin to give the appearance of a muzzle like facial structure. I also highlighted the T-zone of my forehead and the area under my eyes.
Once the highlighting was complete, it was time to start conturing my face to a more cat-like shape. I applied black paint to the eyeshadow brush and outlined my cheeks, chin and forehead. I used brown paint to add shadow to my jaw and temples and flatten the bridge of my nose. Black paint was used to cover the tip of my nose and inside of my upper lip.
Conturing complete, all that was left was to darken the edges of my face and add the spots. I brought the spots down to my neck to give the look a more realistic vibe. All in all, it was alot of fun to create and I think the end result looks pretty darn good…dare I say purrrfect?
